This past Tuesday, March 19, 2024, a group of Sokal employees participated in a volunteer day at the Durham Museum of Life and Science for their upcoming dinosaur egg hunt! Sokal selects a local organization to volunteer with on a quarterly basis to give our company and employees the opportunity to give back to our community.
The Durham Museum of Life and Science is a non-profit organization that helps educate kids in many different areas including biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, and more. They also maintain many different exhibits like the Dinosaur Trail, Aerospace, Sound, and Forces of Nature. These environments allow kids to have a hands-on learning experience about our past and present in indoor and outdoor spaces. The museum's mission is to create a place of lifelong learning where people of all ages can explore and engage with science, nature, and technology in fun and interactive ways.
Two groups of Sokal employees, split into a morning and afternoon shift, got to volunteer with the museum to help prep goodie bags for the upcoming dinosaur egg hunt that takes place the week of Easter. The goodie bags consisted of some fun dinosaur-themed stamps, stickers, tattoos, and even a dinosaur mask! In an assembly line fashion, Sokal employees were able to complete thousands of goodie bags for the Durham Life and Science volunteer team.
Mary Taylor, the volunteer coordinator for the Durham Museum of Life and Science stated: “With your 36 volunteers, y’all put in 72 hours dedicated to Dino Egg Hunt prep! With your morning and afternoon teams combined, y’all completed 2,880 goodie bags for our Dino Egg Hunt participants! Sokal has surpassed our goals this year so on behalf of our Special Event team as well as the Museum, thank you for all that you have done! We literally could not have done this without your support!”
Sokal loves giving back to the surrounding community through our quarterly volunteer days. This past year Sokal has sent volunteers to Beautiful Together Animal Sanctuary, Note in the Pocket, and Food Bank of Eastern and Central NC.
