How to Prepare Your Car for the Summer

· Written by Julianna Lim

Your car engine oil light is on, your tire pressure is low, and your air conditioning isn’t working. With summer just around the corner, keep your car in the best condition for those last-minute beach trips, long drives, or typical runs to the store. Here are a few car tips you might want to remember with summer coming along!

Check Your Tire's Air Pressure

With a new season approaching, be sure to inspect your tire pressure! Over the winter, your car may have lost a bit of pressure due to the colder temperatures and adverse weather conditions. To know how much to fill your tires, you can find your recommended tire pressure in the car owner’s manual. While we may choose to ignore the pressure light, it’s important to keep your tires at the optimal pressure level to avoid a sudden flat tire, especially during long drives!

Refill Your Fluids

Make sure to double-check your coolant fluid, windshield wiper fluid, and brake fluid before going on your long-haul drives. Keeping your coolant fluid level in check will prevent your engine from overheating, which is more common during the hot summer days. Another important fluid to check is your brake fluid, as the higher temperatures can cause the fluid to evaporate, which can make your brakes work less efficiently. Lastly, refilling your windshield wiper fluids will be useful for cleaning off any sudden debris on your drive on hot or rainy summer days!

Get Your Oil and Filter Changed

Oil changes are essential to keeping your vehicle in good working condition. The oil acts as a lubricant for the moving parts within your vehicle's engine, but with higher temperatures, the heat can cause the oil to degrade, which could damage your engine. If your car is due for an oil and filter change, don’t delay the service, as it keeps your engine safe and clean from contaminants and prevents engine parts from being damaged.

These are just a few tips to get your vehicle ready for the upcoming summer days and overnight trips! Share these helpful tips with family, friends, or clients to ensure they’re prepared for the new season change!
