Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has been quite the buzzword in the news and tech industry lately, but what exactly is AI and why is there a sudden “hype” about it?
Artificial Intelligence is defined by Britannica as the ability of a computer or a robot controlled by a computer to do tasks that are usually done by humans because they require human intelligence and discernment. So in other words, AI is essentially applications that perform complex tasks that once required human input. This can range from responding to customers online, self-driving cars, predicting weather patterns, assisting in medicine, or even fun tasks like playing a computer game. The overall goal of AI is to create technology that allows computer systems to work intelligently, yet independently.
One of the many reasons AI is growing so fast is because of the advancement of technology. With the increase in the computer processing power and data storage capacity in recent years, more sophisticated AI algorithms have been developed. This has allowed for more human-like interactions than the AI systems of the past and many industries are looking to use the technology in new ways.
Accessibility is also driving the newfound AI craze in ways the tech industry has not seen before. From digital assistants that can be found in cell phones to smart homes and applications that can help children with homework, AI has become a feature that many people are becoming comfortable using in everyday life. This is also making the ease of adopting AI easier for businesses.
With the continued development of AI, the potential uses for the technology are exponential. AI is at the forefront of this new era where its role will be integral in almost every aspect of people’s lives. It is an exciting new chapter that will bring with it a great deal of technological advances, new opportunities, and even new industries.
